Life jackets encouraged for annual Float Down Sunday

Sunday, hundreds of adventurous folks will take to the St. Clair River in Port Huron to take part in the annual Port Huron Float Down. The seven and a half mile event gets underway at 1 p.m. and goes from the Lighthouse Beach to the Chrysler Beach in Marysville. State and local agencies are urging those planning to attend to take safety precautions.
In 2015, strong winds blew over one thousand people in to Canadian waters. The U.S. Coast Guard has ordered all motor traffic on the St. Clair River between noon and 8 p.m. be closed for the event, according to a press release.
They have also established a temporary regulation requiring participants younger than 18 to wear life jackets.
