Rains pound parts of Sanilac County

Heavy rains late Thursday pelted an area from Marlette to Peck and out to Lake Huron, leaving many fields under water and ditches overflowing. In Peck, M-19 was underwater in places, causing vehicles to roster tail through the water.

One report from west of Peck said more than four inches of rain fell in less than one hour. Drain Commissioner Greg Alexander said an area near Brown City saw heavy rains as well, with debris floating from fields and ditches spilling over into freshly planted crops.

By Friday,many tiled fields had handled the rainfall and ditches were starting to recede. Some un-tiled fields remained flooded.
