Worth Township road improvements; gravel or limestone?

Sanilac County road commission officials met with Worth Township board members last week is trying to come up with an agreement on how to best improve township roads. Although it had been past practice to use gravel, township officials told the county they felt the roads were not holding up. A proposal of using limestone instead of gravel was discussed, including increased costs. The township suggested using 500 ton of limestone per mile while road commission staff said they recommend 800 ton per mile to better stabilize the road.

Engineer Robb Falls said the cost to the county to haul in limestone is $17 per ton. Falls said Worth is leaning towards using a contractor for hauling the limestone from a yard in Marine City.
