Police investigate possible illegal drug use
(Port Huron Township) Members of the St. Clair County Drug Task Force have been putting miles on their vehicles while seizing drugs and making arrests over the past 72 hours.
An investigation into sales of crack and heroin in Clay Township ended on January 9th with a traffic stop on M-29. Members of the DTF, with the assistance of a Clay Township Police unit, made the stop at about 5:00 p.m.
A search of the vehicle found heroin and crack cocaine. Three females, ages 45, 35 and 32, and a 41 year old man, all from Clay Township, were arrested.
Two of the women are facing charges of possession of heroin and crack cocaine, as well as smuggling narcotics into the jail. The third woman is expected to be charged with possession of heroin. The man was arrested on a warrant and for driving while license suspended.
The DTF headed north later on the 9th, executing a search warrant in the 5600 block of Lapeer Road in Kimball Township at about 11:00 p.m. Once inside, members of the Drug Task Force located a handgun, about $8500 worth of methamphetamine, $1400 worth of analogue pills and $200 worth of LSD. Also located in the residence was packaging material and drug paraphernalia.
A 35 year old Port Huron man was arrested at the residence and lodged at the St. Clair County Intervention and Detention Center. He faces charges including possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, possession with intent to deliver analogues, possession with intent to deliver LSD and felony firearm.
A 33 year old Port Huron woman was also taken into custody. She faces a charge of frequenting a drug house.
On January 10th, an investigation into the sales of cocaine in Port Huron led to a search warrant executed in the 1600 block of 23rd Street in the city of Port Huron. $10,000 worth of cocaine was seized by members of the DTF in that residence.
A 49 year old Port Huron man in lodged at the IDC, where he faces charges of possession with intent to deliver cocaine and being a habitual offender.
On January 11th, members of the DTF were called to assist Memphis Police after a call of a garbage bag smoking in the back of a garbage truck. Members of the DTF discovered the bag contained components of a meth lab. Information on where the bag was picked up was relayed from the trash removal company.
Surveillance was then set up on the home, located in the 80000 block of Main Street in Memphis. A traffic stop was made on a vehicle driven by two women who had left the house. A search warrant was obtained for the home, where 31 one pot meth labs were located. The one pots and the garbage bag was neutralized by members of the DTF specially trained in dismantling clandestine labs.
The evidence was then transported to a Drug Enforcement Administration storage unit at the Sheriff’s Office.
The two women, ages 31 and 26 from China Township were arrested and lodged at the IDC. They face charges of operating and maintaining a meth lab as well and operating and maintaining a drug house.
