McKenzie Celebrates National Reading Month with Community Coloring Contest
Sanilac County, Mich. – McKenzie Health System is celebrating National Reading Month this March with a county-wide coloring contest to encourage creativity and highlight the importance of reading.
National Reading Month is held every March in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday. The goal is to inspire people of all ages to read every day. Studies show that daily reading improves vocabulary, focus, and academic success in children.
“Reading helps people of all ages learn, grow, and discover new ideas,” said Heather Baumeister, Director of Healthcare Practices at McKenzie Health System. “We love celebrating National Reading Month and encouraging families to make reading a daily habit, whether through books, eBooks, newspapers, or magazines.”
The coloring contest is open to children up to age 10, and entries will be accepted March 1-31. Coloring sheets are available at McKenzie healthcare offices in Croswell, Peck, Port Sanilac, and Sandusky, or can be downloaded at www.mckenziehealth.org/2026-Color. Completed entries can be submitted online, and winners will be chosen through a random drawing at the end of the month. Prizes will be awarded to selected winners.
McKenzie Health System supports literacy beyond National Reading Month. Many of its family healthcare providers participate in “Reach Out and Read,” a national program that promotes early literacy by providing books to patients aged six months to five years. Through this program, providers encourage families to read together, helping children build strong language and learning skills. Visit www.mckenziehealth.org/2026-Color to download coloring sheets and join the fun, or stop by any McKenzie healthcare office to pick one up today.
