Search warrant locates home THC extraction lab in Sanilac County’s Sanilac Township

dtf-4-3

A search warrant executed earlier this week found a home lab for THC extraction at a Sanilac County residence, according to the Drug Task Force.

The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office, Sanilac County Drug Task Force and the Department of Human Services responded on Tuesday, December 16, to a residence in the 7000 block of Washington Road in Sanilac Township as part of an investigation into the health and safety of children residing at the residence.

While at the residence, authorities obtained a search warrant to search the residence for evidence that THC extraction, through the use of Butane, was taking place inside. During a search of the home, over 260 pounds of suspected marijuana plant material that had not yet gone through the THC extraction process was located, as well as laboratory equipment consistent with a butane extraction lab.

A butane extraction lab consists of using butane, a highly flammable product, to remove the THC from marijuana plant materials before the THC is then converted into different forms for use by a consumer. As part of the investigation, the extraction lab was disassembled by laboratory trained Drug Task Force personnel.

The Sanilac County Drug Task Force was assisted on scene by the Sanilac East Fire Authority.

Charges against the 38-year-old man and 33-year-old woman who live at the residence will be forwarded to the Sanilac County Prosecutor’s Office upon completion of this investigation, with no further details being released in this matter.

As always, the Sanilac County Drug Task Force urges citizens to report suspected drug activity through their anonymous tip line at (800)-544-DRUG or through the Submit a Tip feature on the Sheriff’s Office webpage or the Sheriff’s App.
