Michigan State Police investigating trooper involved shooting in Kingston

Michigan State Police (MSP) detectives are currently investigating a trooper involved shooting on Denhoff Road in the village of Kingston, Tuscola County.

On Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at approximately 8:30 p.m., personnel from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Caro Post responded to a residence in Koylton Township to pick up a 54-year-old man on a mental order that was signed by a judge.

The preliminary investigation indicates that troopers and a sergeant arrived on scene and encountered the man in a vehicle. During the encounter, the man produced a weapon and shots were fired. The sergeant was shot in the hand, treated at the hospital and released. The 54-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Michigan State Police (MSP) Investigative Response Team and MSP Crime Lab responded to investigate and process the scene. The investigation remains ongoing. Additional information will be provided when it becomes available.
