In addition to approving an as-needed work contract with professional planning and zoning services Wade Trim, Inc, for assistance on master plan updates, zoning ordinances and more, the city of Marlette will meet Monday night to discuss unfinished business regarding the regulation of marihuana businesses in the city limits.
While a zoning ordinance concerning such businesses was approved at a special meeting on Wednesday, October 8, the ordinance being reviewed at the November 3rd meeting is a revised regulatory ordinance, as amended by the city’s legal counsel, for marihuana businesses in the M zone area.
No approval is being asked by the council at this time on the ordinance; rather, they are being asked to provide feedback and recommend next steps. The revised ordinance says that up to 10 marihuana grower licenses could be permitted, as well as only one marihuana retailer. A related provisioning center would only be allowed under the ordinance if said provisioning center is co-located with the approved marihuana retailer.
If authorized, the proposed ordinance dictates a marihuana business would only be allowed to operate if they have the conditional authorization of the city council; a final authorization by the city’s clerk; a certificate of occupying under the city zoning ordinance; and all necessary approvals and licenses by the state’s Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
Monday night’s meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Marlette Fire Department, located at 6064 Marlette Road in Marlette, due to set up at the Marlette City Hall for Tuesday’s election.
