Brown City is seeking applications for an interim city manager, following the resignation of City Manager Chuck Bennett in late August.
Bennett, who gave a 60-day notice when he submitted his resignation letter on Wednesday, August 27, has served as city manager since October 2022, when he succeeded Clint Holmes in the role.
Brown City posted the interim role to their social media Monday morning, requesting a cover letter, resume and references from interested applicants. Responsibilities the interim city manager can expect include attending all city council meetings, implementing city council policies, overseeing daily municipal operations, managing day-to-day financial operations, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, ordinances and policies, and representing the city during interactions with residents, businesses, and regional partners.
Minimum qualifications include a familiarity with local government operations and personnel management, as well as strong skills in leadership, organization and communication. The position is temporary and will remain in place until a permanent city manager is appointed. Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience.
To apply, submit a cover letter, resume and references to City Manager Chuck Bennett at cbennett@cityofbrowncity.gov, or by sending it to PO Box 99, Brown City, MI 48416. All applications are due by the end of day on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
