The St. Clair County Road Commission plans to begin construction of a roundabout at Marine City Highway and Palms Road just after Labor Day.
The work, scheduled to begin on September 2, will see only westbound traffic maintained on the Marine City Highway through the construction zone, with work estimated to finish in October 2025. The posted detour for east bound traffic will be Church Road to Meisner Road to Starville Road.
Palms Road north of Marine City Highway will be closed for approximately 3.5 weeks during the construction of the north half of the roundabout. The detour route will be Springborn Road to Starville Road to either Marine City Highway or Arnold Road, depending on the destination.
During the construction of the north half of the roundabout, the south leg of Palms Road will be open to west bound Marine City Highway, and will be detoured via Arnold Road to Starville Road to Springborn Road.
Traffic will be maintained within the construction zone, including to homes and businesses. Local residents and emergency vehicles will have access to local properties throughout the entire project. Local residents are encouraged to plan for delays due to construction.
All scheduling and project dates are subject to change depending on weather and the contractor’s schedule. The prime contractor is M.L. Chartier Excavating, Inc, with the project financed by the St. Clair County Road Commission, the State of Michigan, and the Federal Highway Administration at a total estimated cost of $1.3 million for construction.
