80-year-old Yale man killed in motorcycle-deer collision

A motorcycle driver was killed last Thursday after a collision with a deer in Speaker Township.

Sanilac County Central Dispatch was contacted around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, with a report of a motorcycle vs deer personal injury traffic crash on Galbraith Line Road, near Cork Road, in Speaker Township.

Initial investigation determined that a 1968 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Galbraith Line Road when it struck a deer. The rider, an 80-year-old Yale man, lost control, laid the bike down and was separated from it, causing life threatening injuries. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Croswell EMS transported the rider to Port Huron McLaren where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. Names are being withheld at this time as this is an ongoing investigation.

The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Croswell EMS, Speaker Township Fire, and Thumb Towing.
