An active shooter situation Thursday morning at Medilodge in Cass City was clarified to only be a practice drill.

Cass City Police and surrounding agencies were dispatched around 9:15 a.m. on Thursday, August 7, due to a report of a possible active shooter at Cass City’s Medilodge.

However, prior to the officers’ arrival, administrative staff contacted Tuscola County Central Dispatch and advised them that they were actually having an active shooter drill. At that time, all agencies cancelled their response for assistance.

Chief James Freeman and Officer Bill Hartzell continued to Medilodge for additional information regarding the incident. After further investigation, it was found that when the facility went into lockdown, a person that was unaware of the drill called 911 to report what they thought was an active shooter.

Cass City Police again reassures the public that there is no active shooter threat to the community, and that it was only a drill.
