Though school is out for the summer, several local school boards are still at work during the long break, including the districts of Carsonville-Port Sanilac, Sandusky and Deckerville.
In addition to approving the purchase of a new International Bus through the Midwest Bus company for $142,482 via bond funds during a June 5 special meeting, the Carsonville-Port Sanilac Board of Education held a budget meeting last Thursday, June 26. The budget meeting saw several actions, including the acceptance of resignations by elementary school teacher Gerald Pathic and high school teacher Jenna Tetil, and the tentative scheduling of school board meetings in the next academic year.
CPS Superintendent Doug Muxlow also spoke with the board about the future need to renew the 18 mill Operating Millage. The millage was last approved in 2018 for 10-years.This ‘non-homestead’ millage is levied on businesses, rental properties, vacant land, and second homes, and does not include primary homes or farmland.
The Sandusky Board of Education also met on Thursday, June 26, hearing a presentation for and ultimately approving of a school-sponsored trip to England, France and Italy in 2027. The board also handled several retirements and resignations, with the school district losing Sandusky Jr/Sr High School secretary, Betty Mullaney, and high school science teacher, Kristen Guibord, to retirement. While Mullaney will be retiring in August, Guibord will retire at the end of November 2025.
Deckerville’s Board of Education will be holding their meeting tonight at 7:00 p.m., with the planned agenda including the hiring of two second-grade teachers, two Junior/High School teachers, and one custodial supervisor. The board will also be accepting three resignations at Monday night’s meeting.
