A two-vehicle crash in Custer Township saw a passenger injured Monday afternoon.

Sanilac County Central Dispatch received a call around 3:30 p.m. on Monday, May 19, reporting a two-vehicle traffic crash on East Sanilac Road near Stringer Road in Custer Township.  Sanilac County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the scene, along with the Sandusky Fire Department and Sanilac EMS.

Investigation found that a 2000 GMC pickup truck, driven by an 80-year-old Carsonville man, was traveling west on East Sanilac Road. The driver failed to stop for a 2006 Chevrolet Express van, driven by a 34-year-old male from Deckerville, that was stopped in the roadway due to active road construction. The pickup then struck the rear of a trailer being hauled by the Express van.

The passenger in the GMC pickup, a 75-year-old Carsonville woman, was injured in the crash. It appears she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The woman was transported to McKenzie Hospital by Sanilac EMS and later transferred to Flint Hurley for treatment of serious injuries.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
