Truck driver spills 12k gallons of milk avoiding head-on collision

accident-2

One truck driver may be crying over spilt milk today, $25,000 worth, after his hauler overturned early this morning in Marion Township.
Sanilac County Central Dispatch received a call shortly after 2:30 a.m. from a 57-year-old Snover man reporting a single vehicle accident. Arriving at the scene, the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office discovered that the Snover man had been hauling about 12,000 gallons of milk with a 2020 Western Star semi truck, and driving south on Ruth Road.
As he drove, an unknown SUV style vehicle headed northbound on the same road was driving in the south lane, requiring the truck driver to swerve onto the west shoulder to avoid collision. This move, however, pulled the semi into the ditch, overturning it and spilling the milk into the field.
The driver of the SUV did not remain at the scene.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, with the truck driver reporting no injuries and that he had been wearing his seatbelt at the time.
The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by Deckerville Fire Department, Sandusky Fire Department, Sanilac County Road Commission and Bartnicks Towing. Anyone with information on the accident is asked to call Sanilac County Central Dispatch.
