Despite help from a family member and initially giving police the slip, a 19-year-old man in Caro was arrested Saturday night for felonious assault.
It was about 3:30 p.m. when Caro Police responded to the scene on Congress Street, south of State Street, being assisted by state troopers, the Tuscola Sheriff Department, a DNR Conservation officer and the State Police Emergency Support Team, being under the impression the suspect was barricaded inside a home on the street.
After clearing the scene but not finding the suspect around 7:00 p.m., police requested and received help from State Police Canine Units, who searched the area with assistance of a state police helicopter. Not finding the suspect in the area, authorities theorized he was being assisted by a family member.
Almost an hour later, an off-duty trooper noticed a car related to the case parked at a restaurant near M-24 and Riley Road, the suspect ultimately being found in the back of an SUV under a pile of blankets. Despite not being cooperative, the 19-year-old was arrested with use of minimal force, now facing charges related to the assault, as well as for resisting and obstructing police.
A 65-year-old woman related to and traveling with the suspect was also arrested for obstruction of justice, with both being held in the Tuscola County Jail.
