Sanilac County Road Commission to resume work on lakeshore

The Sanilac County Road Commission Board met this week, receiving updates on financial and day-to-day operations. Work on the M-25 project in Sanilac Township, to shore up several hundred feet of eroding land along lake Huron, has been on hold for two weeks, but is expected to resume in the coming days. Once work continues, clay back fill and large boulders will continue to be placed on the bluff next to M-25 to try and slow the erosion of the shoreline. Work to complete the project is expected to take another two weeks.
In an update of winter maintenance, board members were told nearly 2,000 ton of salt for State highways has been applied this winter season, along with another 1,800 ton on county primary and secondary roads.
In other Road Commission news, the board learned just over $793,000 dollars was received in Michigan Transportation Funds for the month of February, a decline of around $30,000 dollars from the previous year.
So far for the year, Sanilac County has taken in almost $1.5 million dollars in MTF distributions. They collected just over $9 million in all of 2020. The Road Commission has also been reimbursed around $277,000 dollars for work done on behalf of the State on various highways throughout the county.
