Two homes damaged in Port Huron fire

Two homes were damaged by fire in a structure fire in Port Huron early Tuesday morning. According to fire officials, crews responded to the 2400 block of Military Street around 1 a.m. with neighbors reporting seeing flames coming from the home. Police arrived on location and found heavy fire and smoke coming from a two-story home. A second nearby home also sustained fire damage, despite the efforts of four fire departments. Authorities say one person escaped the first home uninjured. Three firefighters were sent to the hospital for exhaustion and an evaluation. Fire officials say the two story home on the banks of the St. Clair River was believed to be a total loss. Port Huron fire personnel were assisted by Marysvile, Fort Gratiot, and Port Huron Township. The fire remains under investigation.
