15 Tuscola County businesses have received financial assistance designed for struggling merchants during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Tuscola County Economic Development Commission sifted through 80 potential applicants, narrowing the field to 64 recipients, including 15 County businesses that will share $86,000 dollars. In all, 64 agencies including manufacturing, retail, restaurants, educational businesses and more were awarded over $1.7 million dollars in assistance. Generally, the awards were for between $5,000 and $10,000 dollars. Among those receiving financial relief from the Cass City area were Nick’s Country Oven and The Charmont. Among Caro businesses included in the assistance were Brentwood Restaurant, Bayshire Beauty Academy and Harvest Coffee. The program was made possible by funding of $10 million dollars in grants and another $10 million in loans from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
