Port Huron emergency crews responded to the area of the Blue Water Bridge Friday morning, after receiving a report of a truck leaking hazardous gas on the Blue Water Bridge. The incident closed the bridge and blocked off some city streets for nearly two hours. According to fire officials, around 9 a.m., a truck was entering the U.S. from Canada when U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers noticed a commercial tanker truck emitting a hissing sound, along with the smell of unknown chemicals. The truck, which was carrying liquid anhydrous ammonia, was immediately isolated, while all travelers and CBP personnel where quickly moved to a secure location upwind from the truck. Port Huron Fire Department officials discovered the leak was caused by a faulty valve. It was determined the truck could drive safely to a local truck yard to be repaired. A police escort followed the truck to ensure traffic stayed a safe distance away from it, Kerrigan said. Bridge traffic and streets in the area were re-opened around 10:30 a.m.
