(SANDUSKY) – The City of Sandusky and Sandusky Airport officials continue to work with property owners surrounding the airport north of town, as work continues towards what they hope is the eventual installation of an Instrument Approach system.
The matter was discussed Monday evening during the Sandusky council meeting where City Manager Dave Faber told council while some property has been purchased, there are still parcels they need to acquire.
Faber said after repeated attempts at purchase of the needed property has been rejected, one last effort will be made at reaching an agreement before Eminent Domain procedures are enacted.
The city is planning a re-construction of the main runway in 2020 and a runway extension in 2023.
In other council news;
City Manager Faber reported city officials continue to express concern over MDOT’s decision to keep the stoplight at the intersection of Gates Road and M-46 a blinking light.
Faber said the city was notified Friday that the state intends to keep the light flashing caution while they do a study to determine if a stoplight is actually needed at the intersection.
Council members encouraged Faber to not back down and stand firm in having the corner with a working stoplight.
Sandusky Police Chief Brett Lester said he can provide crash data for the intersection that may help the city with their request.
A meeting is being planned between MDOT and city officials in the coming days.
