Tuscola motorcycle deer crash

A 49-year old Deford man sustained life threatening injuries in a motorcycle crash early Thursday morning in Tuscola County’s Almer Township. Tuscola Central Dispatch received a call at 2:14 a.m. reporting the sound of a motorcycle squealing and a loud crash at the intersection of M-81 and Colwood Road. Upon responding, deputies were unable to locate any signs of an accident. Later, at 3:34 a.m., another call came in that a man could be heard yelling for help on Colwood Road, near Deckerville Road. The caller reported that the man had been located a short distance from the roadway and was bleeding heavily. A dead deer and a heavily damaged motorcycle were also located nearby. Further investigation by sheriff deputies revealed that the driver of the motorcycle was traveling south on Colwood Road when he struck a deer and was thrown from his motorcycle. The driver was not wearing a helmet and alcohol is believed to have been a factor. He was flown by Life Net helicopter to Covenant Hospital with life threatening injuries. The victim’s status is unknown at this time, and police are not releasing his name pending further investigation. Caro Police and the Caro Fire Department assisted at the scene.
