(HURON COUNTY) — The Huron County Sheriff’s Office and Caseville Area Fire Protection Association recently presented two men with life saving awards for rescuing a Caseville woman from her vehicle that plunged into the Pigeon River in Caseville on August 6. 66-year old Jesse Ross of Carleton and his son-in-law 42-year old Chad Griffin of Pinckney were recognized for their efforts that saved the life of 34-year old Amy Pero. Both men heard Pero’s van crash through a sign and fence that early morning before dropping about 20 feet into the river. The van was almost totally submerged and both men acted quickly after hearing Pero’s screams for help. They broke out the rear windows of the van and pulled her to safety. Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson says their heroic efforts were ultimately the difference between life and death.
