The Frankenmuth Fire Department reports that no one was injured after a garage caught fire Saturday evening.

A press release by the department reports that firefighters were called to the detached garage fire near a home in the 500 block of Geyer Street around 8:33 p.m. on Saturday, May 9.

Fire Chief Phillip Kerns advised that upon arrival, flames and heavy smoke were coming from the garage and catching the siding of the adjacent house on fire. No one was injured, as the occupants discovered the fire and exited the home upon seeing smoke coming from the garage.

Frankenmuth fire crews were on scene for nearly three hours and contained the fire to the concrete garage structure, which was heavily damaged. The home suffered some superficial damage as well.

The fire appears to be accidental and the cause remains under investigation. Frankenmuth Police Department and Mobile Medical Response assisted at the fire, with 18 Frankenmuth firefighters reporting to the call. Birch Run Township Fire Department also stood by at their station until Frankenmuth was clear from the scene.
