Huron County Prosecuting Attorney Timothy J. Rutkowski announced Friday that a Huron County jury has found Christopher Gerald Ahearn, 61 of Kinde, guilty of one count of Aiding and Abetting the Unlawful Taking of Deer, in violation of Michigan law.
The conviction arises from an incident that occurred in Huron County’s Lincoln Township in December 2024. Evidence presented at trial established that Ahearn coordinated hunting activity involving multiple individuals and assisted in facilitating the unlawful taking of deer during a restricted season.
The prosecution’s case included testimony from participating hunters and conservation officers, as well as digital communications and photographic evidence documenting the events surrounding the hunt. The case was investigated by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and was tried by Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Alexander Pahany in the 73B District Court, with the Honorable Gerald M. Prill presiding by assignment.
Following the presentation of evidence, a jury of two women and four men deliberated for just under two hours before returning its verdict. In addition to the conviction, the jury found Ahearn not guilty on other charges, including additional counts of aiding and abetting unlawful taking and a separate count of recreational trespass.
Ahearn was sentenced by the court to pay fines and costs, as well as restitution to the State of Michigan for the deer taken. In addition, his hunting privileges were revoked for the remainder of this calendar year and for the following five years.
