Two ATV riders were injured following a two-vehicle crash in Sanilac County’s Greenleaf Township Saturday evening.
Sanilac County Central Dispatch was called shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, with a report of a two-vehicle injury crash on N. Van Dyke Road at Seeger Road in Greenleaf Township. Sanilac County Sheriff Deputies, Elkland Fire Department, MMR and Aspire EMS were dispatched to the scene.
Initial investigation by deputies determined that a 2014 Yamaha ATV, being driven by a 63-year-old Cass City man and ridden by a 62-year-old Cass City woman, was traveling southbound on N. Van Dyke Road. The driver attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Seeger Road and failed to yield to a northbound 2000 Volkswagen being driven by a 29-year-old man from Wisconsin.
The impact caused both riders to be ejected from the ATV, while the ATV came to rest in the northwest ditch of Van Dyke Rd. The Volkswagen left the roadway to the right and struck several trees causing the vehicle to become disabled.
The occupants of the ATV were treated on scene by EMS and Fire for non-life-threatening injuries and later transported to Covenant in Saginaw for additional treatment. The Wisconsin man was not injured.
Alcohol does appear to be a factor in the crash. Neither occupant of the ATV was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Names are being withheld at this time, as the incident remains under investigation.
