Michigan State Police arrested a Flint man on larceny charges in Lapeer County’s Burlington Township last Friday.
Lapeer Post troopers observed the 46-year-old man on the morning of Friday, March 21, standing next to a bicycle and acting suspiciously near Jefferson and Kennedy Roads in Burlington Township. The man ran into a nearby cornfield when troopers attempted contact, leaving the bicycle behind and adding to troopers’ suspicion.
Still, they continued to a different call for service, returning 30 minutes later and approaching the man again. Once again, the man ran away, abandoning the bike.
This time, officers requested assistance from the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office drone operator, who located the man in the woods on nearby Peck Road. He was taken into custody about 7 a.m. that morning, and admitted he had stolen the bike from a home in North Branch. A backpack belonging to the man was also found, containing pipe-cutting tools, a headlamp, and copper piping.
The man was lodged at the Lapeer County Jail on charges of larceny and resisting and obstructing police.
