Repairs to Michigan state park dune stairway completed

NORTON SHORES, Mich. (AP) – Repairs to a stairway that leads to the summit of a dune on Lake Michigan at PJ Hoffmaster State Park have been completed. The Muskegon Chronicle reports that the Dune Climb Stairway leads to the top of a high sand dune where an observation deck has a panoramic view of the lakeshore. It had been closed since mid-September. The structure reopened July 1, and now features an entirely new stairway. The project was completed for about $265,000. The original plan called for the replacement of retaining walls and anchor points, but a decrease in the planned budget of $300,000 resulted in staff focusing on the stairway.
