Chestnut recaptures hot dog-eating title

NEW YORK (AP) – Joey “Jaws” Chestnut says this past year has been tough. Last Fourth of July, he lost his hot dog eating title to Matt Stonie. But he has turned the picnic tables on his rival, beating Stonie yesterday to regain his title at the Nathan’s Famous hotdog eat-off. Chestnut left no doubt this time around, scarfing down 17 more hotdogs than Stonie. Chestnut says “woke up the sleeping giant” last year by ending his streak of eight straight wins at the Nathan’s event last year. On the women’s side, Miki Sudo successfully retained her title, eating 38 and a-half hot dogs in 10 minutes. It’s her third straight win.
