The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office was busy Wednesday as officers responded to two separate vehicle crashes, one in Worth Township and another in Buel Township.
Shortly before 10:20 a.m. on Wednesday, January 21, Sanilac County Central Dispatch received a call reporting a multi-vehicle traffic crash on South Lakeshore Road, just north of Fisher Road, in Worth Township. Deputies, along with Burchville Township Fire Department and Croswell EMS, responded to the scene.
Investigation showed that there was a minor two vehicle crash that occurred between two southbound vehicles just north of Fisher Road. A third vehicle, a 2018 Ford Focus driven by a 46-year-old Lexington man and further occupied by a 21-year-old Lexington woman, was traveling south on South Lakeshore Road behind the two vehicles when the minor crash occurred. The crash prompted the Ford’s driver to cross the road’s center-line to avoid the crash; however, in doing so, the Ford struck the rear trailer axles of a northbound truck tractor and trailer, being driven by a 60-year-old Battle Creek man.
The Ford’s occupants were transported to McLaren Hospital in Port Huron by Croswell EMS, with emergency crews reporting airbags did deploy and both occupants were wearing their seatbelts. Names are being withheld at this time as this is an ongoing investigation.
Later that day, around 4:40 p.m., Sanilac County Central Dispatch was contacted again, this time about a single vehicle traffic crash on Peck Road near Todd Road in Buel Township. Deputies, along with Croswell Police, Lexington Police, Croswell Fire and Croswell EMS, responded to the scene.
Investigation showed that a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 61-year-old Applegate man and further occupied by the man’s 49-year-old wife, was westbound on Peck Road when the driver lost control due to the icy roads. The vehicle went into the north ditch before rolling on its side, with airbags not deploying. Emergency responders do report seatbelts were used at the time of the crash, which resulted in the man being transported to McLaren Port Huron for treatment of injuries.
The sheriff’s office reports that alcohol was a factor in the crash and that charges will be sought upon the investigation’s completion. Names are being withheld at this time as this is an ongoing investigation.
