(MARLETTE) — Marlette Regional Hospital’s Auxiliary volunteers have received statewide recognition with the 2016 Group Volunteer of the Year Award by LeadingAge Michigan. The Marlette Hospital Auxiliary is the hospital’s longest-standing group of community volunteers and throughout the years, have played a vital role in the delivery of health care services in the Thumb area. In addition to managing the hospital’s gift shop and greeter program, they undertake a number of special events and fundraisers throughout the year to help support patient care units and are especially passionate about supporting residents residing in the long-term care unit. Since 1993, Auxiliary volunteers have donated $65,000 to purchase items that enhance patient comfort and care in the long-term care unit. The LeadingAge Michigan Group Volunteer of the Year Award recognizes a volunteer group, auxiliary, or organization working within a member community that has provided extraordinary service to seniors. A total of 65 nominations were received and the Marlette Hospital Auxiliary was one of seventeen award recipients recognized in various categories at the LeadingAge Michigan annual conference in May.
