A Huron County jury found a 32-year-old man guilty last Tuesday of disturbing the peace. Andrew Wilbur was convicted Tuesday, January 6, following a jury trial in the 73B District Court in Bad Axe.
The conviction arose from an incident that occurred in Bad Axe at the Sweet Fire Tobacco Shop. Evidence presented at trial showed that the defendant entered the business and upon being asked to provide identification for a purchase, became upset and caused a disturbance inside the store, which escalated as he was exiting the business. The case was investigated by Officer Kyle Bischer of the Bad Axe Police Department, with Wilbur arraigned on the charge on July 10, 2025.
After hearing the evidence at last week’s trial, a six-person jury of two women and four men deliberated for approximately 15 minutes before returning a unanimous guilty verdict.
Sentencing is scheduled for January 29, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. before the District Judge Julienne M. Ferris.
