(AREA) — The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has awarded Operation Stonegarden grants to Sanilac, St. Clair, and Macomb counties, as well as port security grants to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department and the Algonac Fire Department. Congresswoman Candice Miller says that its critical that the Department of Homeland Security work with and support local law enforcement agencies, especially those along our borders. The grants will help improve interagency coordination and create a force multiplier for agencies tasked with keeping our borders safe. St. Clair County was awarded $104,207 and Sanilac County received $52,929 through the Operation Stonegarden program grants. The Port Security Grant Program provides funding to support transportation infrastructure security activities to implement Area Maritime Transportation Security plans and facility security plans among port authorities. The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department was awarded $110,551 and the Algonac Fire Department was awarded $118,101.
