State Rep. Matthew Bierlein, of Vassar, announced his candidacy for the Michigan State Senate in the 26th District on Wednesday, January 7.

Bierlein, a republican, serves as Chair of the state house’s Oversight Committee on Public Health and Food Security, Vice Chair of the Oversight Committee, and a member of the Health Policy Committee and the Oversight Committee on Corporate Subsidies and State Investments.

The 26th Senate District includes communities across parts of Genesee, Lapeer, Saginaw, and Tuscola Counties, much the same area that Rep. Bierlein covers in his role as representative for Michigan’s 97th District.

The state senate seat is currently held by Republican Senator Kevin Daley of Lapeer County, who is term-limited.
