Despite some concern about the process, with it happening so close to an election, the Watertown Township Board of Trustees appointed township resident Zack Heifner as their township’s supervisor at Tuesday night’s meeting.
Heifner, an operations manager at Sandusky Auto Sales, was the only applicant to the township’s posting of the supervisor position, and has recently filed as a write-in candidate for the position in next week’s primary election. It appears that he is the only candidate for that seat, write-in or otherwise.
The July 28th meeting also saw the board note to the gathered township residents that, due to anticipated recall elections of several township board members, interested residents are encouraged to file as candidates to run against the recalled incumbents. The township officials facing potential recall include treasurer Sheila Coats, clerk Tammy Ross, and trustee Jason Radloff.
While the recall against Coats was filed with its signatures for county verification on Monday, Radloff and Ross are currently appealing the recall petition’s language, as filed by fellow board member Sheila Coats, with their appeal hearings scheduled for Tuesday, August 4, at 1:30 p.m. before Circuit Court Judge Timothy Wrathell.
The Watertown Township board will meet again on Tuesday, September 1, at 6 p.m.
