Marlette’s Mecha Marauders Take 9th in Division at State Finals; Punch Ticket to World Championship

The Mecha Marauders (FIRST Robotics Competition Team 9757) of Marlette Community Schools recently completed their first-ever FIRST in Michigan State Championship at Saginaw Valley State University.

Competing in the Aptiv Division, the Marauders finished qualification rounds ranked 9th in the division, and served as Alliance 6 Captain during the playoffs.

Although they were eliminated early in the playoffs, their performance landed them a spot at the FIRST World Championship in Houston, Texas, taking place April 29 through May 2. Attending “Worlds” is another major milestone for this third-year team.

The team’s season has been defined by consistent success, finishing as runners-up at their first competition at Kearsley High School and fourth at their second event at Fenton High School. Out of nearly 530 teams in Michigan—the largest state for FIRST Robotics—the Marauders finished the state season ranked 54th. Notably, FIRST Robotics does not categorize schools by size; Marlette competes directly against the largest districts in the state for the same championship title.

“Marlette Community Schools strongly values and supports academic and athletic opportunities such as Robotics because of the positive impact these programs have on our students,” said Superintendent James Marshall. “Activities like the Mecha Marauders help students develop teamwork, leadership, problem-solving skills, and a greater sense of belonging. This support aligns directly with our district’s mission of helping every student find a place to grow, contribute, and succeed.”

The Mecha Marauders are now preparing for their debut at the FIRST Championship in Houston, where they will represent Marlette on the global stage. Supporters can watch the championship live via FIRST’s YouTube channel.
