With donations from two companies, the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team is well on its way to rebuilding and restoring the specialized equipment destroyed in a February fire at their facility.

The sheriff’s office reported yesterday that United Shield International donated multiple rifle- and pistol-rated ballistic shields, along with 15 Level IV body armor plates, while Pro-Tech Sales outfitted the Special Response Team with helmets, gas masks, and ballistic shields.

The assistance comes following a fire on Wednesday, February 25, at a commercial building in Kimball Township, which houses the St. Clair County Drug Task Force. The building held equipment, ammunition and offices. Losses were minimized in part due to on-site evidence being stored in a fire safe vault.
