Worth Township treasurer submits letter of resignation; no special meeting scheduled yet to accept it

Recall organizers say their efforts are no longer needed in Worth Township, after township treasurer Jennifer Woodruff submitted her resignation to the board yesterday, March 25.

The move follows repeated calls by the board and township citizens for her to resign alongside former township clerk Jennifer Marshall, in light of a December audit finding alleged negligence of duties and unauthorized compensation by the clerk and treasurer, which led to significant financial losses for the township. The move also comes about a week after the board appointed trustee Steve Kovac as interim township clerk until the November general election.

Due to Kovac moving from the trustee position into the clerk position, the township is now also seeking a new trustee. Those interested in being a trustee are advised that “attendance at 12 regular monthly evening board meetings and occasional daytime board meetings is a statutory duty to be taken seriously,” should they join the board. The position is compensated, with applicants needing to be at least 18 years of age, a U.S. Citizen, a registered voter, and a township resident of at least 30 days to qualify.

Those who are interested are urged to send a paper letter of interest and/or a resume by mail to Clerk Steven Kovac at Worth Township Hall, 6903 S. Lakeshore Road, Lexington, Michigan 48450. Applications are due Wednesday, April 8, 2026 by 4 p.m.

As of Thursday morning, no special meetings have yet been called by the board to accept the resignation and appoint an interim treasurer, with Woodruff’s resignation effective Sunday, April 5, 2026. The board is scheduled to meet again on Wednesday, April 15, at 6:30 p.m. for their regular monthly meeting.
