Worth Township appoints Trustee Kovac to clerk role, now seeks new trustee

Rather than a new clerk, Worth Township is now on the look-out for a new trustee for its board, with the board appointing Trustee Steve Kovac to the clerk role at last night’s meeting.

Citing an immediate need for a clerk, in part for upcoming election duties and in part due to overdue bills needing to be paid, the board approved the appointment, with Supervisor Walt Badgerow administering the oath of office. According to the Michigan Township Association, the board was not required to advertise the vacancy or solicit resumes, but doing so could have attracted a larger pool of candidates.

Due to the clerk position being an elected role, according to state law, Kovac will only remain as clerk until the November election, at which time he would have to formally run for the role if interested in remaining. The township now has 45 days to fill the trustee position Kovac just vacated.

Also at Wednesday’s meeting, the board shared that they have submitted their plan of action to the state treasury and are working to totally comply with the state’s standards and demands.

The board will meet again on Wednesday, April 15, at 6:30 p.m.
