The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office is reporting a vehicle pursuit ended with a personal injury crash in Austin Township on Monday night.
The sheriff’s office reports that deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop around 8 p.m. yesterday, March 16, on a 2002 Ford Ranger near the intersection of Cass Street and Main Street in Minden City. The driver failed to comply, disregarding emergency lights and sirens, and a vehicle pursuit ensued.
The pursuit lasted approximately 16 minutes and traveled through Minden City, Minden Township, Austin Township, and a small portion of Huron County. However, the pursuit ended when the suspect vehicle lost control on Huron Line Road near Freiberger Road in Austin Township, with the vehicle rolling over into a ditch.
Deputies, along with Argyle Fire and Rescue personnel, extricated the lone occupant from the vehicle using rescue tools. The driver, identified as a 48-year-old man from Minden Township, sustained minor injuries. He was transported to Deckerville Hospital by Cass City MMR, treated, and later released.
Deputies also confirmed the driver had active warrants, including a felony warrant for a previous fleeing and eluding offense. Following his release from the hospital, the driver was lodged at the Sanilac County Jail on charges related to fleeing and eluding law enforcement, in addition to his outstanding warrants.
The incident remains under investigation. Deputies were assisted at the scene by Argyle Fire and Rescue and Cass City MMR.
