A text from a family member led a Tuscola County woman to finding out she’d won a $3.98 million jackpot from the Michigan Lottery.

The lucky player matched the six numbers drawn in the Feb. 21 drawing to win a $3.98 million jackpot. She bought the winning ticket at Bryan’s Market, located at 6002 North Lapeer Road in North Branch. North Branch is about 40 miles northeast of Flint.

The 63-year-old winner chose to remain anonymous, but reported that she had been playing the lottery with her husband every week for years. The day after the drawing, a text from a family member informed her that a winning ticket was sold at Bryan’s Market and asked if they were the big winners.

Though they had bought their lottery tickets at the market that week, the couple thought the chances of them winning were slim. Still, the winner grabbed the tickets out of her wallet and as she scanned them with the state’s lottery app, the screen lit up with the news that she was the big winner.

“I was in complete shock,” the winner said, adding, “It’s the kind of feeling that makes you want to break down and cry!”

The lucky player recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim the big prize. She chose to receive her winnings as a one-time lump sum payment of $2.7 million rather than annuity payments for the full amount. With her winnings, she plans to pay bills and live comfortably.
