A fire at a storage facility owned by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office is under investigation.

St. Clair County Central Dispatch received a call just before 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25, regarding a fire alarm at a commercial building in Kimball Township, which houses the St. Clair County Drug Task Force. The building holds equipment, ammunition and offices. Crews from multiple area fire departments responded and worked to extinguish the flames.

No injuries were reported, with no one inside the building when the fire began. Losses were minimized in part due to on-site evidence being stored in a fire safe vault.

Via a press release, the Sheriff’s Office assured the public that it prepares for unforeseen events, and services will continue to operate without interruption. The scene has been turned over to the Michigan State Police Fire Investigation Unit and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for investigation.
