Police say a Marine City teenager is cooperating with investigators after he struck and killed a pedestrian while driving in Port Huron Township last Friday.
St. Clair County Central Dispatch was contacted shortly after noon on Friday, February 20, with reports that a pedestrian walking on Michigan Road, north of Dove Road, in Port Huron Township was struck by a vehicle. The pedestrian was thrown into a roadside ditch and was unresponsive, while the involved vehicle, initially described as a small SUV, was also reported to have left the scene.
St. Clair County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with the Port Huron Township Fire Department and Tri-Hospital EMS, responded to the scene and found the unresponsive man face down in a water filled ditch and began life saving efforts. The 51-year-old Detroit man was transported to Lake Huron Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.
The involved vehicle, a 2008 Jeep Liberty driven by a 16-year-old Marine City boy, returned to the scene a short time later. The Jeep driver was cooperative.
Drug and/or alcohol tests are pending results. The incident is being investigated by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office Crash Investigation Team.
