District 64 State Rep. Joe Pavlov, of Smiths Creek, recently shared that House Bill 4486, a bill he co-sponsored to protect affordable energy choices for Michigan residents, was passed last month by the Michigan House of Representatives.

HB 4486 would prohibit local units of government from imposing a ban on the use of natural gas or installation of natural gas infrastructure in new construction. This legislation aims to protect consumer choice and help keep utility costs down at a time when families are already facing rising expenses.

Pavlov argues that natural gas is often more affordable than electric appliance alternatives and plays a critical role in keeping homes warm and energy bills manageable. According to Pavlov, this plan is intended to combat efforts to restrict the use of natural gas and protect affordable energy choices for Michigan residents.

House Bill 4486 passed the House in a 61 to 42 vote and now advances to the Senate for consideration. Other area representatives who voted to pass the bill include state representatives Greg Alexander of Carsonville, Matthew Bierlein of Vassar, and Phil Green of Millington.
