Port Huron Police had an unexpected drug bust last week, with officers allegedly finding about 4 ounces of methamphetamine during a traffic stop.

Port Huron Police Officer Hoppe stopped a pickup truck near 10th Avenue and Rawlins Street around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 4, as the vehicle was operating without taillights. While speaking with the driver and passenger, both acted nervous, with the passenger seen moving around and adjusting what appeared to be a bag in her pocket.

Based on his observations and conversation, Officer Hoppe requested a K9 for an open-air sniff. A K9 team responded, and the dog alerted to a trained odor emanating from within the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle and its occupants located four bags, each containing approximately one ounce of methamphetamine, as well as an additional bag holding less than two grams of meth. Also found in the search was a glass pipe and packaging materials. Officers also learned the occupants were using a police scanner app while driving through the city.

Both occupants were arrested and taken to the St. Clair County Jail on charges including possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, possession of narcotic paraphernalia, and use of a police scanner in the commission of a felony.
