Marlette woman injured in Fremont Township single vehicle crash

accident

A single vehicle crash last Monday evening sent a Marlette woman to the hospital, according to the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office.

Sanilac County Central Dispatch was contacted around 5:20 p.m. on Monday, December 22, with a report of a single vehicle crash that occurred on Todd Road near Mortimer Line Road in Fremont Township. Deputies, along with Croswell Police and Croswell EMS, responded to the scene.

Initial investigation determined that a 2014 Jeep Cherokee, driven by a 59-year-old Marlette woman, was northbound on Todd Road. A slow-moving tractor was also northbound with its rear warning lights activated. Due to the dusk lighting, the Marlette woman was not able to judge the distance of the farm equipment and was unable to safely yield. To avoid a collision, the Jeep veered off the roadway, narrowly missing the farm equipment and a mailbox. The Jeep continued through a ditch and over a driveway, coming to rest in a residential yard.

The driver was wearing a seatbelt, but sustained possible injuries and was transported by Croswell EMS to McLaren Port Huron. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. Names are being withheld as this is an ongoing investigation.
