Tuscola County house fire hospitalizes four residents, one Millington Police Officer

Four Tuscola County residents required medical transport following a fatal house fire last Monday night.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Caro Post responded around 11:15 p.m. on Monday, November 24 to a fully engulfed residential fire in Millington Township. The preliminary investigation revealed that several individuals were inside the home at the time of the fire.

Family members attempted to rescue a 53-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman but were unsuccessful due to heavy smoke and extreme heat. The home’s four other occupants, a 60-year-old man, a 35-year-old man, a 50-year-old man, and a 57-year-old woman, were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

A Millington Police Department officer was the first to arrive on scene and successfully rescued one of the occupants. The Millington officer was later transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the MSP Fire Investigation Unit, Millington Fire Department, Vassar Fire Department, Mayville Fire Department, Birch Run Fire Department, Millington Police Department, Vassar Police Department and Mobile Medical Response (MMR). The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
