A two-vehicle crash in Forester Township claimed the life of a 75-year-old Port Sanilac man last Friday afternoon.
Sanilac County Central Dispatch was called on Friday, November 14, around 2:38 p.m., with a report of a two-vehicle crash on Lakeshore near Shabbona Road in Forester Township. Sanilac County Sheriff Deputies, along with the Deckerville Fire Department, Port Sanilac Fire Department and Sanilac EMS, were dispatched to the scene.
Initial investigation determined that a northbound Buick SUV, driven by a 75-year-old Port Sanilac man, crossed the center line and went directly into the south bound lane of travel, striking a semi. The struck semi, a 2007 Kenworth semi tractor hauling sugar beets, was driven by a 25-year-old male from Bad Axe who went off the roadway to try to avoid being struck head on. The SUV struck the semi’s left front.
The Port Sanilac man was treated on scene by Sanilac EMS and transported to Deckerville Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The Bad Axe driver was not injured.
Deputies were assisted on scene by the Sanilac County Road Commission. Names are being withheld at this time as this is an ongoing investigation.
