The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office has recovered the body of a Madison Heights woman near Algonac.
The department received information last week that a woman missing from Madison Heights was possibly in the area, based on cellular information. A search of the area was conducted with negative results. However, on Monday, November 11, further information was obtained that indicated that she may have gone into the water near the Algonac Boat Launch.
The St. Clair County Marine Division deployed a boat and used sonar to confirm a vehicle was submerged close to where the last cell phone data was received. The St. Clair County Dive Team, along with multiple departments from the Southeast Michigan Dive Group, responded, with the divers able to locate the vehicle, bring it to the surface, and safely remove it from the water.
The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office thanks the Oakland County, Shelby Twp, and Chesterfield Twp dive teams for responding with ample equipment and personnel, thus making the successful recovery possible. They also thank the Algonac Department of Public Works for keeping the boardwalk clear of ice and snow during diving efforts, and for providing responders with a warm building during the inclement weather.
