A man sentenced earlier this year in relation to the 2011 Lapeer County murder of Andrea Eilber had his motion to withdraw his plea agreement and be resentenced denied on Monday, November 3.
Chadwick Mobley, 44, was sentenced Tuesday, April 15, 2025 to lifetime imprisonment without the possibility of parole by Judge Michael Nolan in the 40th Circuit Court in Lapeer County, having pled no contest in February to charges of First-Degree Murder, Felony Murder, and Felony Firearm. However, Mobley filed on October 15, 2025 to have his no-contest plea struck, with his lawyer arguing that Mobley was not properly advised by the court about the plea’s minimum sentence. Judge Nolan disagreed at yesterday afternoon’s hearing, ultimately upholding the sentence.
The case stems from a tragedy in November 2011, when 20-year-old Andrea Eilber was shot in the head at the home of a relative in Lapeer. Evidence found at the scene was tested for DNA during the immediate investigation, and again in 2022 in a renewed effort that positively identified Mobley, who by then resided in the state of Utah. Mobley fled his home shortly after questioning by Michigan State Police and was later apprehended by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department in Libby, Montana, before being returned to Michigan to face criminal charges.
Kenneth Grondin, Eilber’s boyfriend at the time of her death, was originally arrested and convicted for her death. However, Grondin’s conviction was overturned in 2018, and the man successfully petitioned the court in 2023 to have his bond conditions of house arrest lessened, with the man now able to leave his home and travel around St. Clair, Lapeer, Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties. Both Grondin and Mobley maintain that they do not know each other, with Mobley last saying so at his February sentencing.
Grondin is scheduled to appear in Lapeer County’s Circuit Court again at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 for another jury trial.
